Legal Ethics and
Courtroom Decorum

About This Course

Legal practice is defined not only by knowledge of statutes and case law, but by professional responsibility. This course introduces early-career lawyers and law students to the ethical foundations of legal practice in Pakistan, focusing on the Pakistan Bar Council Rules, 1976 and the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973. Through structured modules, participants examine the advocate’s dual role as both representative of the client and officer of the court, and how duties to the client and the court must be balanced in accordance with established professional standards.

The course explores the core principles that guide legal ethics, including honesty, integrity, independence, confidentiality, competence, and non-discrimination. Rather than treating ethics as abstract theory, it grounds these principles in enforceable rules, constitutional principles, and judicial precedents. Designed for practical application, the course equips participants with the ethical reasoning tools needed to navigate real professional dilemmas while upholding the integrity of the justice system.
